I made JAO last Sat., and today when I looked at it, I had small amounts of mold growing on the inside neck of my 1 gallon carboy, but had no mold in the mead. I took a sample using sterile technique, and it appeared to be a white, powder type mold. Maybe it came off one of the orange slices when I crammed them down the neck. Anyway, I took a small 2"x2" and soaked it in pure grain alcohol, then cleaned the inside of the carboy down to the mead. I got all the mold, but do you guys think it will be ok at this point?

It's really difficult to say without having seen or tested it ourselves.

Any possibility that this could be foam or yeasty stuff left behind as the volume of the fermenting must shrank?

I don't believe it was yeast as most of it was up high on the neck of the carboy where the must never reached. I don't think it was foam since no foam from fermentation reached that high. I believe it was mold, it was little, round white spotty patches about the size of a sharpie point.
