Hello all

I am a resident in Hawaii and wasn't quite sure if anyone knows if there are any local stores that have brewing equipment. I have not read up too much on the steps of brewing and different recipes but in the near future it will become a reality.

So if anyone has any advice about local shops or places I could purchase kits online (cheaply I hope haha) I would appreciate the help!

;D

Welcome to Got Mead?

Meadmaking shares the same equipment as beermaking, so any homebrew supply should have most of what you need. The main Got Mead? site suppliers list shows a shop in Honolulu (http://www.gotmead.com/index.php?option=com_sobi&task=details&catid=104&id=254&Itemid=34). You might also try Googling for "hawaii homebrew" and see what turns up. In particular look for a homebrew club as they are a good source of camaraderie, knowledge and used equipment. Be sure and check the NewBees Guide (http://www.gotmead.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=108&Itemid=14) for basic information about equipment and processes. Don't forget to make ample use of the search engine (http://www.gotmead.com/forum/search.php) or the Got Mead? Gnomes will scold you. ;D -- Olen

Welcome to Got Mead.

If you haven't already, you'll want to check out the new bee guide found here (http://www.gotmead.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=108&Itemid=14). There are a lot of recipes out there that are a bit outdated. (They still make drinkable mead but may not be ideal. They more easily get stuck because of low pH or perhaps don't feed the yeast.) Going through the guide before starting will help you decide which techniques you want to use or perhaps avoid.
