With Valentine's day coming up, I've seen a couple of articles about pairing red wines with chocolate - though that's never worked very well for me.

So I was wondering what meads do you think are the best compliment for chocolate (milk or dark)?

Anything with cranberries!!!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

there's a local winery not far from here that makes an incredible cranberry cordial and they do their tastings with chocolate truffles. AMAZING!

I'd say that a sweet cherry melomel would be awesome with dark chocolate. Chocolate Cheery cordial anyone?

I would lean towards the drier meads...personal taste, but I don't like sweets with sweets.

Blackberry honey Zinfandel Pyment!

That sounds tasty. Is that sweet or dry?

My own personal favorite (so far) is oaked dessert-sweet orange melomel with dark chocolate (particularly chocolate torte).

Semi-sweet with some nice oak and plenty of fine grain tannin.

Got to pair it with deep dark high cacao content bitter chocolate. Mmmmm, silky smooth, dark and brooding chocolate. Damn, I gotta get to the chocolatier and fork over!!

Occult Noir (become a patron and read the recipe if you don't know what I'm talking about! ;) ), with Scharffen Berger dark milk.

Nice juxtaposition of the "cassis" in the O.N. with the smooth, rich cocoa in the chocolate bar. ;D Without the milk added, the overall balance would be skewed too much toward bitter.

How about a chocolate mead? Then you have everything in one package!!

Any decent mead you can get ahold of, assuming you eating nice dark dark chocolate of course... ;-)
