Hey folks,

I know that NHC is primarily a beer thing, but is anybody going this year? There is a talk/panel on mead scheduled in addition to all the beer talk. Being in Oakland this year, I couldn't pass up the opportunity and got my ticket this morning. Here's the details: http://www.beertown.org/events/hbc/

The mead powerpoint was interesting and rather funny.

My son and his roomie have started brewing beer in their apartment in Berkeley...if I can get them to go maybe I'll go with.

(just what he loves, having Mom tag along with him :))

I was planning on it but I am taking my missus to Ireland, sans kids, in October instead.

I hope the mead discussions are really good ones with lots of folks. The more info the better!

I will attend this event. Hope to find some nearby attractions. Are any on the winerys north of Oakland offering mead?

The only meadery I found around here so far is Rabbit's Foot down in Sunnyvale.

Russian River brewing is worth the trip though, there is a bus tour organized for the day before the conference.

Tomorrow is the last day you can sign up for NHC events online! Everything is sold out except for day passes to the two social/tasting events in the evenings on 6/18 and 6/19. Go here to register. There are also still some spots open for pre-conference events like a pub crawl, tasting classes, and a Giants game in SF.

Indeed, it is I! I was too cheap to buy the fancy robes, but I did get a goofy hood. Looks nothing like an actual hood, which is too bad because then I can't wear it out to impress the ladies. ;)

If you're not going to be in academia you'll never wear those robes again anyway, so I don't blame you. I wear mine once a year and they're getting kind of ratty. Should have gone for the good ones. :)

I hope you have fun at NHC--I don't like beer at all, but it sounds like it would be loads of fun.
