I was looking at some of the threads on Blood Orange Melomels and I am now thinking of trying one this upcoming spring. I was wondering who has made one and how did it turn out? What lessons learned would you like to share?

You've probably seen my thread about the leatherwood blood orange melomel. The main thing that I'd do differently (apart from using a different calculator) is juice the oranges, and not have a massive amount of flesh floating around taking up space in the fermenter. On the other hand, I suspect the flesh has added useful tannins to the mead... I'll let you know once I've bottled. It looks amazing bulk aging. Brilliant bright red. It'll probably look more orange in the glass, though.
