View Full Version : Home made Yeast?

So I found this cool video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-GmnAD4J7E (here) that showed how to make 100% wild/natural yeast from raisins. This is for bread making but I was wondering if anyone has used this or something similiar for making Mead? If so how did you go about it.....I am guessing using the flour at the end is a bad choice. Any comments or ideas are welcome as well.

Welcome to GotMead Thor!!!

Most fruits will have wild yeast growing on the surface. You can make a small batch of must or use some apple juice and dip the fruit in, or throw some skin in, and you'll get wild yeast fermenting. Sometimes they are good - sometime they get stinky and taste bad, but you have to wait and see.

There are several threads on "wild yeast" and if you do a search for that term you can read about some other people's experiences.
