Well while I'm still waiting for my 1st attempt at mead to finish I figured I would take advantage of all the dandelions around here and try making a dandelion mead. I have already searched around and have found some recipes to give me a starting point.

My only question is what kind of honey would work best for this? I figure I'd need something lighter since dandelion isn't overpowering. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Very light clover honey, or maybe Star Thistle would probably work.

Wish I knew where to get a bucketful of untreated dandelions... ;-)

Tons of them around me over by Lansing.8) Course now the trick is to get the kids to pick that ton. LOL

Guess I'll have to order some more Star Thistle honey too. Last time I bought some from a place near Traverse City and it was pretty tasty. I'm still looking for a good supplier close by that doesn't charge an arm and leg for honey.

I got the Star Thistle Honey I've been using from Sleeping Bear Farms, nice stuff.

I occasionally buy 5 gallon buckets of Orange Blossom Honey from Groeb farms in Onsted, which works out to about $2 a lb or so.
