Ok, I've just spent about 15 minutes with the search tool to find a thread where one of the mentors explained the math behind doing a boil test to determine actual alcohol content and I can't bloody well find it. Can someone please suggest what search terms might make the infernal tool spit it out?

Spirit indication? Something something spirit something. Hrmm, I'll go look for that too...

How about this one (http://www.gotmead.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17312&highlight=spirit)?

Try Spirit indication
I also got there with a simple advanced search on the three words Boil Alcohol Percent

Answered my own question 5 minutes later, search terms "determine alcohol content (http://www.gotmead.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17312)", if only I'd remembered ebulliometry and spirit indication. Thanks to Medsen's link to vinocalc (http://www.musther.net/vinocalc.html#spiritindication), I know for sure what the actual SG is of my fortified acerglyn is! Plus or minus about two percent, near as I can figure, given errors reading the SG and errors in reconstituting my sample ...

Now I'm starting to understand the errors in estimated alcohol content based on SG readings, I think the ethanol content affects the readings enough to make a difference... Woo-hoo, 18% (+/- 2%)

I hate search engines <pout> and I had tried "boil test alcohol percent" and got nothing useful :BangHead:
