View Full Version : Pitching new yeast - cambden first?

Hi,
One of my meads never got going, and I'm now pitching Wyeast Dry Mead instead of the sweet that never started. It's been standing for three days now, so I was just wondering if I should treat it with campden tablets (actually, I got the equivalent powder), and if so - how much.

If you make a starter and get it going fast, you should be OK.

Are you sure it isn't going? Is the gravity stable?

Medsen: In three days, it went from 1.108 to 1.105, which might as well be an air bubble or two on that gravity meter thingy...

Yes, that looks like no activity.
I don't think it will matter if you use the sulfite or not. I probably wouldn't bother.

Thanks to both of you. I just pitched the yeast in with no starter and no campden anything, and it's now going like crazy :)
