So I've used boiled bread yeast before to get rid of sulfuric smells, and it's looking like I should add some to my kiwi/pineapple melomel, but my jar of Fleischmann's active dry yeast is a few months past expiration.

Should I not use it?

I don't see why you couldn't, as long as it doesn't smell compromised or anything. The expiration date in yeast is just the point at which they won't guarantee a certain viable cell count, it's not like the expiration date on Tylenol where it starts to break down into harmful compounds. And since you're just killing the yeast anyways... all you wanted was their corpses in the first place! :)

Don't see why not since you'll be boiling it any ways just to get the nutrients the hulls will provide. I've fermented with expired yeast before and it worked so I see no reason it won't work for what you will be using it for.

That being said I am only making an assumption here as I've never boiled expired bread yeast to get rid of smell (but if I needed to I would, and I think it would work fine).

Let me know the results, just in case I run into the situation in the future.

That's what I was thinking, too. In that case...

EDIT: It's my #4 brewlog, I'll definitely keep you posted on the results. Thanks for the input!

I've been looking around, and I can't for the life of me remember or find the amount for yeast hulls per gallon.
I'm thinking something like 1 tsp, right?
