Hi,

I've made a batch of mead a few months back (just simple ingredients; honey, water, sugar, yeast nutrient and some cinnamon) and recently filtered it two times to clear it up but I've gotten some off color stuff settling on the bottom now. It almost looks like some kind of mold :-\

Should it be tossed and restarted or has anybody else ran into this sort of thing?

Here are some photos:

The only thing different I've done this time is used montrachet yeast.

Thanks!

Edit: I should say the one image doesn't look too bad with just normal looking sediment

For heavens sake don't toss it! Rack it onto some stabilizing chems and taste and smell. If it tastes good and smells good it's good!

But you're right, that black-ish sediment would make me nervous.

Just treated/racked it again - it tasted and smelled appropriately.

One difference was that the one bottle with the suspicious looking stuff in it was very carbonated but otherwise tasted/smelled ok.

I'll let it sit for a while longer and see if anything else appears - Thanks for the response!
