I plan to use mesh bags when using fruit, take more gravity readings ( when not using fruit ), try using some clearing agents or than time and cold crashing, and to continue to read about mead making as much as possible... :)

Start my first batch. Done. Finish and bottle said batch.

gonna start using math instead of relying on backsweetening.

I shouldn't buy anymore carboys after today.... I needed the two 3 gallon carboys...really... hehe... :)

Out of curiosity, what's the going rate for 3 gallon glass carboys at the lhbs these days? I've been meaning to get one, along with a 5 gal, and maybe try one of those plastic jobbers.

"Cuts"?

I have yet to make anything with OB save for one where I backsweetened with it. For the price (and conversely, the quality) of OB in the grocery store, I'll have to bite the bullet and spend some real money and order online or something.

Cuts... yes they are used in knowing when the "foreshots" are done and when the "heads and tails" are done.

Ah.... not something I'll be playing with anytime soon...

To quit starting and then neglecting beer and hydromel batches!
To get all those bottles I took out of the racks in July back into the racks before next July...
To actually use some of the fruit in the winery freezer instead of just using the freezer as a racking elevation. I sense another multifruit mel coming on... maybe a 5 gal batch done in two fermentation buckets this time.
To cross SOMETHING off my to-brew list this year without replacing it with three other things I want to do!
Oh, and use the OB, mesquite and wildflower honeys I have been given...

1. To make at least two buckets of stock honey worth of mead (and not buy any more until I double that!)
2. Use the 20 lbs. of mango in the freezer
3. Use the 20 lbs. of blueberries in the freezer
4. Make a 14 gal pymenet out of the remaining wine kit in the cooler
5. Try my hand at braggots
6. Keep a mead on one of the two taps of the kegerator
7. Use the flip top bottles I have or find a home for them
8. Separately cool the wine rack area, turn its closet into a primary fermentation station

A blueberry, mango pyment could be very interesting...:D

+1 to blue berry mango mead. I want to do more tests using pH to stop fermentation at a specific SG

I've got a 60 lb (5 gal) bucket of clover I plan on using up. I've been eyeballing a 32 gallon Brute for a primary...

Hmm, now there's a thought, I do have a 15 and a 20 gallon fermenter doing nothing.....

Come to Miami Beach. When you're tired of sun and surf I'll host a lunch at my house. Lots of pulled pork sandwiches and mead.

1. Make more batches
2. Try out new varietals
3. Make a pyment
4. Make a stout braggot bochet
5. Make a second, better cyser
6. Be more precise in measuremnts.

curgoth

1. Be more patient with my non-BOMM batches and let them age longer before bottling.
2. 5 gallon batches!
3. Find at least 3 recipes I love enough to make in steady rotation.

Right. Get passports and meet TheAlchemist, who wants us to go to Schramm's with her sometime in the summer :)

(I've met two Gotmeaders so far)

Hey, if people show up to visit Schramms, and don't mind hangers on, post somewhere, I get up there once or twice a month and wouldn't mind meeting people :)

Think it should be on most people's to do list... even if it is in Michigan... :)

I'm in Michigan for a convention in March, and am considering adding a day to my trip just so I can go to Schramm's. And possibly B.Nektar, too.

skunkboy
01-12-2015, 08:57 PM
BNektar is like 3 miles up the road, so if you had the time doing sampling at both is good. We also have two breweries about 6 minutes east them Kuhnhens and Dragonmead which also make mead...

curgoth
01-13-2015, 06:45 PM
Excellent. I'm hoping to pick up a few bottles from both to consume at the con, and a few extra to max out my duty-free limit before I head back home. I'm also going to try to hit Munro's on the Canadian side on my way back.

skunkboy

I haven't made it to Munro's yet...

curgoth
01-19-2015, 02:39 PM
Today I learned: I'm utterly spoiled by living close to the Niagara wine region - I'm used to assuming that I can just show up at a winery any time during the day and get a tasting and buy a few bottles. BNektar is closed all the times I'd have open, and Schramm's doesn't open until 4 that day. I may have to content myself with driving around Livonia to pick up mead from a liquor store rather than visiting in person.

Resolution is to keep better records (or any records), and get a better workspace. A stainless steel surface would be great.

Replace my scale so I can weigh ingredients again. I have been doing volume conversions and my precision has not been as good.

I haven't made it to Munro's yet...

Haven't been there myself but a friend orders their stuff online from time to time and he's shared with me. Good stuff.

1) Graduate from 2 gallon batches to 5
2) Start a Melomel
3) Keg and age some
4) Improve technique and recipes with the goal of entering amateur competitions in 2016

1) Better note taking!
2) Better decluttering and organization of brewing stuff.
3) Don't leave GotMead for months at a time!
4) Do something with the malt vinegar that I brewed and now has hair growing on it.
