View Full Version : Lalvin 71b 1122 siting on lees

Ok I am in the prosess on making my second mead with lalvin 71b 1122 yeast.
I used 8 liters (around 2 gallons)of Spring water and 4 kilo honey and 13teaspoons of bee pollen. it has bee in primery for 25 days and it has slowed down to 1 bubble every 5 minutes 40 seconds for the first 10 days or so it was bubbling once every 2seconds the yeast cake is about an inch and a half thick. I am still waiting for my hydrometer to come though the post and I don't know If I should wait for the hydrometer to arrive It could take another 5 days or so, or should I rack of the lees? I am worried as I have read that it Is not good to leave 71b1122 on the lees to long?

You can let it sit some if you want to as long as you control your temps. Either way you need to stir the batch every other day to keep the lees in suspension. Not just for 71-b but for every yeast

ok thanks the temp is between 62 and 64 I will keep the yeast in suspension an till I get the hydrometer.

In what way do 7 out of 4 people have a hard time using their hydrometer? I looks quite straight forward.
