View Full Version : Water from airlock got into my batch

A few (3 or 4) drops of water just got into my 5 gallon batch of JAO. It's three months old and I was taking a taste to see if it's ready to bottle.

Is this going to be a problem? Should I go ahead and stabilize it?

No, a few water drops (or all the water in the airlock) are not going to bother your JAOM. That being said, it is a reason why some people use cheap vodka in their airlocks.

Ther should be no reason why you should have yo stabilize a JAOM. It's a sweet mead, with a yeast that has an alcohol tolerance of 10%-11%. After sitting around for 3 months the yeast are most likely totally "crapped out".

Understood. I did not stabilize the last one gallon batch that I made. However, all four bottles were given away or consumed in a week. This will be around twenty bottles, many of which will be given away and stored for who knows how long, under who knows what temperatures. I would really like to play it safe, if for no other reason than to ease my concerns.
