I have a 5 gallon batch that has been re-racked several times and been sitting for about 6 months. My concern is that it is down to about 4.5 gallons in a 5 gallon carboy and therefore has a lot of headspace. My thought is that I could rack it into a keg, hit it with some CO2, and leave it in there to age. I will not leave the CO2 hooked up to carbonate it. This would take the oxygen out and allow it to age.....better? Am I totally off here? Thanks for any ideas!

Go for it. That much headspace is fine for mead, especially with the CO2.
