I haven't made a batch of mead in a long time, and I'm attempting my first mead using TOSNA. I think there are a couple different versions available since I've been on last, but the one I found that I planned on trying is TOSNA 2.0.

The problem is, my calculations seem to be way off and I'm having difficulty figuring it out.

It's a 1 gal batch of prickly pear mead using mesquite honey. I rehydrated 71B-112 with GoFerm. Pitched at same temp.
OG = 1.108, which would give me 25.6 brix.
X 10 = 256 grams sugar per Litre.
256*.075 = 19.2 (YAN requirement)

256*19.2*1/50 (ppm) = 98.3 total grams. (24.57 gram servings)

That seems like WAY too much Fermaid-O. Like, an insane amount. Where did I go wrong?

Did you check out the TOSNA calculator: http://www.meadmakr.com/tosna-2-0/

One mistake was that you used .075. Should have been .75.

Using the calculator, it looks like it should be around 3.86 grams (calculator doesn't do 25.6 Brit).

So, using that as a hint, it looks like the equation should be (25.6 * 10 * .75)/50 * 1 = 3.84 grams.

Yeah, it's not explained very well on the website........
