I've read in a number of sources that Campden tablets are made of K-metabisulfite, and that I should generally avoid the use of sodium compounds in my mead to avoid a salty taste. Before reading those warnings, in preparation for my first batch of mead, I bought Campden tablets at the LHBS, only to find that they're Na-metabisulfite. Is this going to be a problem?

No, it wont be a problem. I use campden tablets all the time with no problem. I imagine it could be bad if you added too much, but too much of anything in your mead can be bad.

Use at the rate of 1 campden tablet per gallon. Remember to crush them first!
