If you were to make a methglin...lets say for arument sake that you were making a 6 gallon batch and wanted to use cinnamon and nutmeg, how much ground spice would you add to your must?
Assuming ground spices probably 2-4 oz of each. I'd consider making a tea by putting 2 oz of each spice in water and bringing that water up in temperature, but probably not boiling it. after it steeps at high temperature for oh 15-20 minures add that to your must. I'd probably then take some Vodka and a couple old 12oz honey jars and put 2 oz of each spice in seperate Jars, add Vodka and let it pull the flavor out of the spices... This can later be added to the mead by taste before bottling if you think the mead needs more spice taste.
Technically this would be making a distilled spirit product so don't tell anyone. (i suppose you could make seperate teas instead with water)
