How long will dry yeast keep in the fridge? I found some D-47 hiding in my butter bin, but it may be as many as 4 mos. old. Should i pitch it or toss it?

4 Month is not to long. I have created starters from packets as old as 4 years without any problems.... (I do try to use them up faster than that, but you sometimes lose one of them :-\)

Make sure you re-hydrate with Go-Ferm and follow the guidlines for that particular yeast.

D47 is a high nitrogen needs yeast, so you'll need to supplement with nutrient and dose it at the end of the lag phase and at the 1/3 sugar break as well. Perhaps at the 2/3 sugar break too.

There should be an expiration date on the packet...even then i've used dry yeast that was expired without a problem. Liquid yeast cultures are more perishable.
