I want to make a 5 gallon batch of Joe's Ancient Orange and have a simple question ..... Am I to multipy ALL the ingredients by 5? Based on what I've read, it may not be prudent to do so - particularly with the cloves and the oranges which some have suggested are overpowering even with a 1 Gallon Batch. Guess I'm a little confused ??? but feel confident that the expertise that exists within this forum will lead me in the right direction.

Joe has said that scaling up for a five gallon batch is simply boosting everything by 5 times.

First off, welcome to the Forums!

Secondly, yes, you'll want to multiply everything by 5 -- EXCEPT for the yeast. In this case, you'll want to use only one, or at most, two sachets. Otherwise, this recipe goes the same way as the 1-gallon, and should finish up on the same schedule. Mine did, anyway (6 gallon batch), and I was very happy with the results.
