Thread: Campden tablet useage

  1. Default Campden tablet useage

The other thread got me thinking on proper campden tablet useage. Do you have to crush them or can you just toss them in? I was always hesitant to not crush them before putting them in for fear of not getting a full disolve and an even distribution.

A mortar and pestle is always a handy tool.

Campden tablets should be crushed up completely into a powder. It's why I just use the powder and cut out all the crushing effort in the middle. Then I dissolve it in about 50-100 ml of H2O and stir it in. In either case I usually wear a surgical mask because when working with sulfites in powdered form they can tend to kick up a bit of dust and it's kind of like inhaling powdered pepper.

    Is it tasty . . . precious?
