Thread: Songs About Mead

  1. Default Songs About Mead

Hello all! I have started this thread so we can all have the benefit of a bunch of mead songs in one place. This one is called It All Winds Up in the Glass.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20Ybn...feature=relmfu

So let's drink to the sun, more faithful a lover
Than any we'll find in this world,
And let's drink to the honeybee, buzzing wee alchemist,
    Spinning that love into gold...

Not entirely a song, but a metal band explaning how to make a JAO: Brewing Mead with AMON AMARTH

    Alestorm - Wenches and Mead
When I come back from a mighty quest
I have no need for sleep or rest
I head to a tavern for a drink
And get so drunk I cannot think
A wench by my side and a jug of mead
These are the things that I most need
So I sit back and sing this song
And drink and party all night long
A Skyrim inspired song about Mead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL4vR3PB2oY
Drinking mead in the halls of Whiterun
    The maidens and the men!
    We swig our brew
    Until we spew
Then we fill our mugs again!
You can keep your filthy Skooma
    It makes our bellies bleed
Cause when we raise our flagon
    To another dead dragon
There is just one drink we need...
    NORD MEAD!
PS: As you can see, I'm a big heavy metal fan

Alestorm, thank you. I wanted to suggest that song but I couldn't remember the band's name...
"The main ingredient needed is 'time' followed closely by 'patience'." - The Bishop 2013
"Good grief! If someone wanted to murder you, all they would have to do is ship you a 55 gallon barrel of honey and watch you document working yourself to death!" - Vance G
"When you consider that laziness and procrastination are the fundamentals of great mead, it is a miracle that the mazer cup happens." Medsen Fey, 2014
"Sure it can be done. I've never heard of it, but I do things I've never heard if all the time. That is the beauty of being a brewer!" - Loveofrose, 2014

I don't think they meant mead but the Luke Bryant song, "Drunk on You" has this for a chorus:

"Girl, you make my speakers go boom boom
Dancin’ tailgate in the full moon
That kinda thing makes a man go mmm hmmm
You’re lookin’ so good in what’s left of those blue jeans
Drip of honey on the money maker gotta be
The best buzz I’m ever gonna find
Hey, I’m a little drunk on you
    And high on summertime"

    Followed by:

    If you aint a 10 you're a 9.9
Tippin' n' spillin' that home made wine
    On your tied up T-shirt
Every little kiss is drivin' me wild
Thrown little cherry bombs into my fire
    Good god all mighty

So I like to imagine it's about mead from context clues.

<snicker> That was me in high school... or now still, but only for wearing to heavy metal concerts... one of my schoolmates used to call my favourite pair of jeans "a bunch of rips held together by a bit of denim"...

That said, I rather like "It all winds up in the glass".

So, Neciton, I see you're her official youtube channel, did you help her make the mead? If so, have a read around here before your next batch, you'll see that it doesn't need to bubble for a whole year, we can do better than that now! Always nice to see more Canadians on the site too, where are you based?

    Found another one by accident!
I was Googling for the latest mead I prepared: Krigsmjöd. As it turns out, Finntroll has made a song with exactly that title!

    Fintroll - Krigsmjöd

    Swedish?
Så vakna anden ny ilska alla får
Med spjut och svärd vi på krigsstigen går
Höj era stop för fiendens död
Krigsrus nu väckas med sötat mjöd
    English (Courtesy of Google Translate)
So wake up the spirit new rage for everyone
With spears and swords we go on the warpath
Lift up your stop to the enemy's death
Krigsrus now brought with sweetened mead

I seem to keep on finding more and more songs, here's another one: Equilibrium - Met

Kennst Du den Urknall aus dem Horn?
Kennst Du den Grund für der Nordmannen Zorn?
Klar wie das Wasser aus unseren Tälern,
    Gelb wie reife Weizenähren,
Aus dem Fasse muss es fliessen,
Damit wir Schlacht und Sieg begiessen.

Met, Met, Met, Met, Met, Met

Hoch I'm Norden, tief I'm Nebel
Wo die Mannen mit Njørd segeln
Dort wolln wir I'm Kampfe die Äxte schwingen
Nach der Jagdzeit am Feuer singen
Die Hörner und die Humpen heben
Der Met, der ist ein Asensegen

Met, Met, Met, Met, Met, Met

I was really hoping that Viking Death March from Billy Talent would mention mead, but it doesn't...

Most songs dont, even the Viking inspired ones. A big fan of
Viking/Pagan/Folk Metal (Pick a name), that was suprising
for me too. I did get my first mead on a metal fest though!

A big kudo's for the germans on event organisation btw!
We Belgians keep bragging about our music festivals, but we
got buckloads to learn from the germans! No garbage,
acceptable waiting lines, clean toilets, high quality audio,
high quality drinks/food, ... By far the festival I enjoyed
    the most.
