Thread: My blueberry melomel tastes like prunes???

  1. Default My blueberry melomel tastes like prunes???

Thank you in advance...While searching recipes, I've read a variety of threads and found questions and answers posted here to be very helpful in my own experiments.

Ok my problem child: A 5yr old Blueberry Melomel that still retains the bite of a young mead, and now has developed the distinct taste of prunes.

    9 lbs blueberry honey
    6 lbs wild maine blueberries
    water to make 3 gal
1 pkt red star corvue yeast

I don't remember the SG or PA, but it does have a kick.

First thing. Back into the carboy we go. I am thinking if I back sweeten, it may take some of the bite out, and I also plan to add 1 or 2 vanilla beans to smooth out the flavor. But the taste of prunes? Perhaps more blueberries? Any ideas would be welcome.

Might it be oxidized? A change to a brownish hue would be indicative of this. Also, a taste similar to sherry might indicate oxidation.

No, it's still got a pretty blue color.
