Hey there, I'm new to making mead and have a show mead that I'm come clearing and almost ready to age (that's a story in itself). But I'm about to make a BOMM to hopefully have ready for some Christmas and Yule parties. Scaling up the original recipe, in order to make 5 gallons I need to start with 3.5 gallons of water and ad 12.5 pounds of honey. That's about 3.5 pounds per gallon. Is this about right? It just seems to be a little high from all the recipes I've read up to now. I have plenty of other questions but this one is the most pressing at the moment. Thanks!

Have you looked at the Denard (aka Mr. BOMM) Brewing website? He recommends 1 gallon (approx 12 lbs) of honey.

Thanks for the reply. I have been there! That's where I was looking at the 1 gallon recipe. I didn't see the 5 gallon one on there so thank you for linking it. The biggest issue I have is I can't get a hold of a stir plate. Can this be done with out it?
