The bee season has completely exploded here in Sweden. Flowers popping up like there’s no tomorrow. This demands a huge expansion in numbers of bees in my hives. They need more and more frames. I’m sitting here and threading my hive frames and my fingers are bleeding. Is there someone who has the same experience?

Bought one last year, and it is great, but I still need to pre-tighten before I use it. However, it is a pleasant job when my bees need extra space! A neighbor had extremely high winter deaths only 3 out of 9 hives survived.

I confess, I've never seen the zen attraction of threading frames. I started using Pierco all-plastic frames 8 years ago and haven't looked back. I have to give them a little extra TLC before using them so the bees don't draw out the comb crazy-like, but they take a beating and don't require much work. They're easy to scrape down, too, when I need to clean out the old comb.
