I picked up another bottle of Chaucers mead on Friday to re-evaluate my first impressions. I was thinking to myself that the last time I had any (excluding the Raspberry Melomel) was not very recent. Last night we tried a few bottles of mead and Chaucers came out on top.

I found it much better than the last bottle I tried from them some time ago, and enjoyed it very much. I also found a new-bee mead called Ni-Bit. I contacted the Meadmaker and found that Ni-Bit is the Ethiopian word for Mead. He was a pleasant gent on the phone and I found out that his meadery is only a couple of miles away from where I live, so I'm planning on making a trip over there next week sometime.

I also contacted Chaucers meadery and spoke to the meadmaker there about their mead and their process. He was very genial and very open about his product and how it is received by the general mead-buying public.

Anyhow, I made it a point to invite both of these guys to log-on to the forums and surf around a bit. Maybe they will!

I'm sure he's gotten comments good and bad about his stuff, and I'm sure he's grown used to it. I have a couple of comments out there that are less than glowing as well.

I did talk to him about their Raspberry Mead, he told me it is his first effort on that particular mead, and that they learned a lot from it. So hopefully he'll take the criticism as constructive.

The only thing I would comment on would be to change the "best served as soon as possible after purchase" on the label to "best served after 6 or more months after aging."

I agree with that assertion Norsk. So does the meadmaker there at Chaucer's he is a pretty easygoing bloke and is pretty interested in speaking to people who drink mead. He was very open about their process and the ingredients they use.

He seemed like a very cool dude!
