I havn't seen it before. Have you read The Compleate Meadmaker yet?

Nope, but that page was written by the same guy IIRC. I do plan to get The Compleate Meadmaker ASAP.

I think you'll really like the book Wikd. It's written and organized in a nicely structured format with some neat recipes and a lot of great info on all kinds of spices, fruits, honeys, etc. Some great tips on setting up your meadmaking area, and some good safety tips.

He actually has a braggot recipe in the book, but it has hops in it if I remember correctly.

I'm getting ready to say I have it just so people will quit reminding me about it ;D Seriously, I'm an info-holic. Anything I can find to read on a subject I'm interested in will be found and will be read. I just have this peculiarity were I'd rather have food and electricity than another book. Not to mention that the $20 I'd spend on the book would also buy the honey for my first batch.

I only paid $12 for my copy.
I just used $20 to make a point. I added it all up, and I can get everything I need except the honey and a big pot from one nearby source for just $70. I have a limited amount of funds to spend on my first mead and I'd rather spend it on supplies and ingredients so I can get going sooner. It's not that I question the value of the book, I'm sure it's chock full of very useful information. There is no better teacher than experience. I'm anxious to get my hands dirty.

Please don't take my financial comments to mean that we are impoverished or something. There is money left after the bills, usually in the high 2-digit range. I'm sure most, if not all, of you have other interests outside mead that eat into your resources as well.

My mistake, I paid $14 at a local brewshop called Beer, Beer, and More Beer.

$70? You could get all the necessities to start 1 gallon batches for $25-$30 at my local brewshop. You must be getting all the bells and whistles. :)

That includes hydrometer, Ph strips, yeast, malt extract, yeast nutrients, adjunct grain, scale, siphon tubing, and all the essential stuff. Even if I don't actually "need" some of it for my first batch I figured why not get it now so that I have it for my second or third batch. Like I said earlier, I'm an info-holic. I want to know every detail about my concoction so I can tell what is going on and how to adjust it to make it better. Don't think that's ALL the bells and whistles, but it's a few of them ;D

Oh yeah, I had forgoten you are making braggot. ;D
Yup, and they don't make extracts in cans sized for 1-gallon batches. I hope it will keep if I refrigerate the leftover.

Actually I thought it would cost more to make a braggot. Let me know how it works out! How long does it take to before a braggot is ready to drink anyway?

My understanding is that it will take a while to clear. It will probably require some aging as well. Then there's the bottle-conditioning phase, that's another 2-3 weeks. I'm betting on 6-8 months before it's drinkable. Of course, drinkable doesn't mean perfect.
