Default International Mead Festival Celebrates Continued Growth for Ancient Wine From Ho

BOULDER, Colo., December 15, 2005 -- The word "honeymoon" stems from honey wine and the tradition of drinking it for one full lunar cycle starting on the first night of a couples' wedding. This ‘drink of love’ will be celebrated at the fourth annual International Mead Festival -- Honey Wines of the World, here in Boulder on February 10-11, 2006. (http://www.meadfest.com).

The event is the largest festival and competition for commercial and now home made mead entries. Last festival over eighty five commercial meads from seven different countries were entered for judging and available for tasting by the public. During this years festival seminars on mead will be held that include topics such as: Mead and Yeast; Commercial Meadmaking; Modernizing Biotechnologies Golden Thread, and more.

"Mead is an incredibly diverse beverage and has wonderful flavor and aroma profiles. The public can taste for themselves at the festival," says David Myers of Redstone Meadery and one of the founding board members of the International Mead Association. "We proudly remind everyone that mead is historically referred to as nectar of the gods and can stand alone or, just like grape wine and beer, complement food at the dinner table."

The drink, arguably the world's first fermented beverage, has been made for centuries and is popular in countries including the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Poland, Ireland and now the United States.

Supporters of the festival include: Redstone Meadery, Honeywine.com, The Brewers Association, The Brew Hut, White Labs Yeast, Corpo Meadery, Long Island Meadery, Medovina Meadery, Mountain Meadows Meadery, Pirtle Winery, Sky River Meadery, Spruce Mountain Meadery, and Stawski Importing.

At this point we're going back and counting again, but we will have over 200 entries by my estimation. This is outstanding participation for a first year home competition, and we're very happy with the turnout of meadmakers who have entered.

Say thanks to your Home Mead Makers Competition Committee and all of the mead makers who are making this such an early success!!

    Cheers,

Thanks! Is there any way entrants can get the judges notes back on how they liked, or did not like entries? I'm always looking to improve my mead making skills.

It's my understanding that comments and constructive criticism will be echoed back to the entrants. I'll be sure to raise that issue in any case.

    Cheers,
