NewBee Introduction
I didn't see a specifiic place for introductions, so I figured The Hive might work; here goes:
Hi everybody! I've been lurking for just a short time, and decided to join in. I'm a 42 year old father of two, grandfather of one. My wife and I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
We own a tea/coffee/botanicals and gift shop in a busy tourist town that is centered around wine. (about 23 local wineries at last count) In addition, she is a real estate agent, and I own a small construction (excavating) company.
In my spare time, or lack thereof, I enjoy home brewing and mead making. I have a few batches under my belt. One was fantastic, a couple were good, and a some not so good.
I look forward to learning what I can from all of you, and sharing what I can contribute.

Sounds like you're already into the addiction, so welcome to the forum
So, what kind of winemaker are you? The toss it all together and maybe take a hydrometer reading if you remember, and wait to see what happens type, or the precise attention to details type? I think most of us around here fall somewhere in between.

Just out of curiosity, what was the mead you made that turned out fantastic?
One of the cool things about this forum is that we often give each other ideas and find new recipes to try. It can also be kind of a curse - so many things to brew, so little time/money/carboys etc., and for many of us the to-brew-list grows faster than we can keep up.

in between here! I'm anal as hell with my beer, but I have yet to really check such things with my meads. (I suppose when I go for a 5 gallon batch, I'll watch it a bit closer.) And welcome! (I don't think I ever officially introduced myself...oh well.)

I fall in the middle. I like to experiment. My first batch of mead was a cyser made with canned apple juice concentrate. No hydrometer readings. Bottled when I thought it was done, and ended up with a slightly sweet sparkling mead. (happy accident)

Happy accidents are nice. 2 of first 3 meads were happy accidents.

Greeting OneLeaf!
I LOVE the Sierra's! I lived in Carson City for many years and only recently had to move because I was transferred to the midwest!
Loved Tahoe, Apple Hill and everything else around there!
Welcome to the group!
Regards,
Paul
