Default A yeast starter using dry yeast?...need help

Hey everyone,

I was reading through The Compleat Meadmaker and the author talks about making a starter using liquid yeast but I didnt see any specific instructions about using dry yeast. His recipe for the Medium and Sweet Show Mead call for a 1 liter starter using a dry yeast.

Could someone please elaborate on how to do this? I have made starters using liquid yeast, I just dont know about using dry yeast. Thanks in advance!

Hi Crimson,

Here's a basic overview from Lallemand, regarding lalvins dry yeast
http://consumer.lallemand.com/dansta...lvinrehyd.html

Be sure to check the other link on that page and on the site in general.

Additionally, I recommend the use of GoFerm.

Hi,
The starter described on page 62 worked great for me with 71B-1112. The only thing I did differently was use a 1 gallon glasss carboy. After fermentation stopped, I repeated the starter solution and ended with quite a bit of yeast.
