Making mead is easy. All you need is honey, water, yeast and a
container, and you can make mead. Unlike beer, no boiling is required,
and infections in mead are much less likely than they are in beer. Wine
is nearly as simple, but mead seems to have a mystique
that draws folks to it. Maybe its the tales of knights and maidens, or that the gods drink mead? Could be!
That having been said, there are a thousand ways to make mead, and
no one way is 'correct'. Some people boil their honey, some don't. Some
folks use raw honey, others use filtered. Tap water or bottled water?
Wine yeast or beer yeast? Dry or sweet? Fruit, spices, or 'plain'?
Should you use a hydrometer? What about acid balance and yeast
nutrients? All these questions and more will be discussed in this section.
