Hey everybody, just a reminder to check for mites in your hives. Mid August is when the population of the little suckers explodes and causes long term damage to the wintering ability of the hive. Look for young worker bees with deformed wings and mites on drone brood. Start thinking for the winter months, tilt the bottom boards so any water runs out of the front of the hive and get the screens ready to keep the mice out of the hives. Think three months ahead cause the bees can't. Time to set up for wintering, it will be here soon enough :-\.
