Hi folks,
I'm burning up about the threats being leveled by the likes of Comcast, AT&T/Bellsouth and Comcast against Net Neutrality.
I can speak from experience here - THIS IS ALREADY BEGINNING TO HAPPEN!!!! PLEASE HELP STOP IT!!!!
Gotmead.com sends out periodic 'all hands' messages to announce major site changes like our upcoming move. When I do this (maybe 2 times a year, if that), I get literally *hundreds* of bounces from the 'Big Guys' email systems, saying I'm being 'blocked for spam'. Every day, I get bounces when the Gotmead system tries to notify you that an update has happened in a thread you're watching.
You never get it. Your ISP just bounces it and deletes it.
Write your congressperson, call your friends, and send links to everyone you know. Don't let them take over the internet and decide what we can send, watch, download and read.
Here is what I wrote to *my* congressman (use this link to take action):
_________________________________________________
I am writing today to urge you to co-sponsor the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008 (HR 5353). This important, bipartisan legislation protects the free-flowing Internet from blocking, censorship and discrimination by powerful phone and cable companies.
Tens of millions of Americans rely upon an open Internet in their daily lives. Our elected leaders must protect our basic right to communicate from those who want to take it from us. The legislation calls for a nationwide series of public hearings about what the future of the Internet should look like a an important step to bring these crucial issues into the light of day.
This is not just a minor issue. If your office happens to espouse a viewpoint that is contrary to the internal policies of various large internet providers, your emails to your constituents could be blocked.
I am an internet web designer and provide hosting and email services for my clients. *Every single one* of my clients, including myself (many times) have had our legitimate email messages to clients blocked, and no reason is ever given. It is all done by anonymous computers.
As a small business owner, part of the backbone of the American economy, I appeal to you to help us keep the internet as a cornerstone of American Freedom of Speech. Allowing communication companies to control what we say and who we say it to is tantamount to revoking the Constitution, and all it stands for.
Thank you for your valuable time, and please co-sponsoor and vote *YES* for the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008 (HR 5353).
Please help in this effort by joining Reps. Markey and Pickering in support of the bipartisan Internet Freedom Preservation Act. Thank you.
