so last night my friend and i made our first mead, JAO, which we followed the exact recipe save using clover honey, our local growers only had wildflower so we used that
but now i have looked this morning and it is bubbling once every three second or so and i want to make sure that that is ok
unfortunately, i couldnt give you a SG reading due to me not looking close enough to my measuring equipment
here are a couple pictures:

What are the things in the very bottom? And it kinda looks like the honey has sank to the bottom and did not mix well. If that is what happend you should probably mix it the best you can to distribute it well.

It should look uniform and cloudy with oranges floating on top. If you have a mass of honey that is not well dissovled into the solution, it will help the yeast if you take something and stir it well to get it dissolved (gently). The air expose will not hurt the mead at this stage.

to airate or to not?

Dude,

You need to spend some time reading the Newbee Guide to Making Mead on the main Got Mead? Website. It has a ton of information that is grrrrrrreat for newbies, and will answer most of the questions you're asking here. Take a read through it and then I'm sure you'll have more questions.

Cheers,

Oskaar
