I'm going on a rant!
I'm ticked off about my taxes (I had to send in a big check yesterday). I wasn't able to attend the local tea party as I was working a shift, but I support the idea. I'm really disgusted to see my money taken away to give bailouts to large financial institutions so they can give their executives million dollar+ bonuses and salaries. I even read where one large bank that has received bailout funds has order 2 new Gulfstream jets, and is building a hangar to put them in. Yipee, that'll get the economy moving.
This has become almost comical. Like a little piece from Edgar Allen Poe:
I'll tell you a plan for gaining wealth,
Better than banking, trade or leases —
Take a bank note and fold it up,
And then you will find your money in creases!
This wonderful plan, without danger or loss,
Keeps your cash in your hands, where nothing can trouble it;
And every time that you fold it across,
'Tis as plain as the light of the day that you double it!
I can think of quite a few things that bailout money could be used on that would help to stimulate the economy if they just left it in my grubby little hands. So here are some things that I will not be purchasing anytime soon since my money has been taken to be doled out to the cronies of Washington.
I would love to get a beauty like this 30 gallon American oak barrel (about $400) for my meadeira batches. Letting them cook in the garage in something like this might make for something truly exceptional. By the way, this does not even include the air conditioning system I would like to install in the garage so I could keep a nice cool temperature to age other things.
The lovely IQ 128 pH meter with ISFET technology (no storage solution needed). Accurate to .02, and rugged (about $300). It would be a very handy tool.
Even better, how about this 24 gallon temperature controlled stainless steel conical fermenter (about $2,200) that I could use in the garage to brew cool during the summer (and spring and fall) heat. I could support a lot of beekeepers with one of these babies.
Yes, there are all kinds of wonderful purchases I could make it if I still had some of that money I earned.
What kind of things would be on your bailout list?
