Ok, so I was digging through the online catalogue at Brouwland (they're in Belgium), and came across this little device - 017.578.6 (that's the product code at the Brouwland online catalogue)

Basically, it's a metal band that is wrapped round the neck of, seemingly, any bottle, to convert it into a "swing top Grolsch type" bottle.

I'm gonna have to order a couple of stoppers/corks for 54 litre carboys anyway, so I think I'll invest in a 10 pack of the bands and accompanying swing top stoppers and report back on how I get on.......

What do you think ???

Interesting concept....
I used the Grolsch bottles last year for gift bottles and was pleased I did.
I thought the idea of a classic resealable bottle was a cool idea and if for some reason too much pressure did build up that it would allow a bit of a release system for the gas instead of having a mishap?

With respect to your retrofit idea of the bands..Looks to be a cost effective way to go. The only thing that bothers me is the picture shows the strap with the protruded holes facing in towards the bottle? It would seem that the reverse would be in order to give a better hold of the cam system to attach to, more depth to hold the legs to the strap...
Let us know how it works out...I have not seen that being offered in the states to date either...Interesting Idea....

Cheers,

TB

Yes, I also thought that when I looked at the picture, but figured as I've ordered the 10 pack of straps and tops (with rubber seal), that should give me enough to experiment with....

I'll try to remember to post any pic's that I remember to take, because if it works out Ok, I'll probably move over to using those in preference to messing around with corks etc (unless I have to of course).....

I wonder how long those rubber washers will hold up?
Seems like they would be the same life cycle as a Mason Jar Lid ( 3 years avg )? I have mine on their sides as well, thinking I may stand up instead.
I would bet corks will keep longer if that is of issue...
Around here nothing good lasts until the next batch is ready anyways! :p

I don't believe there would be any help with too much pressure from a flip top, I doubt any of the compressed air would escape before getting bottle bombs.
