View Full Version : Why no Tupelo Honey this year?

10-24-2012, 11:26 AM
I was out on the web looking for Tupelo honey to make a straight mead or metheglin with and discovered that many places are not offering Tupelo this year. I am wondering why this is...

There was a massive drought this year in most areas that have tupelo trees.

IIRC, 2011 was 25% of normal, and 2012 was 15% of normal.

If I Recall Correctly (IIRC)

Basically, two really bad years in a row.

Might try meadowfoam (http://www.flyingbeeranch.net/index.htm?http://www.flyingbeeranch.net/Meadowfoam.php) or sourwood (http://www.blueridgehoneycompany.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BRHC&Product_Code=SGALLON&Category_Code=S), as a tasty alternative.
