Don't know about longevity, and I use campden tablets, rather than powder.
But, I make up CJJ's home sanitiser recipe of 5 crushed campden tablets and 1 tsp of citric acid in 500mls of water. I keep it in a hand spray and it seems to last a month to 6 weeks.
It hasn't caused me any problems etc......
What I'd read is that if you can still smell it, it's still good... and it'll stay good for weeks if you keep the cap on the jar... it bothers my lungs so I have this auto-stop reaction as soon as the smell hits my nose, if that doesn't happen when I take a careful whiff, I make a new batch...
