Whereas, mead is enjoying a resurgence, gaining notable popularity with nearly 100 commercial meaderies operating worldwide, and more and more consumers producing their own mead;
I didn't have a figure for the number of meaderies, but there are probably a lot of them. I've never been to Brittany myself, but got an idea of the mead culture from Chuck Wettergreen, who made a trip out there a few years back with Wout Klingens. Chuck has said that mead is everywhere, you can order it any any bar, find it at any supermarket.
There are over 60 meaderies in the US, I think . . . gotta do a head count at a meadery directory. A worldwide listing would be much much more than 100 total.
