I'll be there from middle weekend to the end. You can view my Pennsic bio here: http://www.pennsic.net/cgi-bin/ppd.cgi?cmd=view&id=1117154647 to find me. Email me if you want to get a contact #, I'll have my cell phone there (though it will be on silent in the pavilion or in my pouch much of the time), if you want to track me down.

Vicky - gonna finish the Redstone Meadery site before I go (I hope)

::grin:: The logo was drawn by a buddy who's quite an artist. You can see his work at http://www.petervintonjr.com. ::Caution, explicit material there::

He never said if I was the original model for the Meadwench, but I like to think so! Sure wish I was that cool looking in real life!

Vicky - counting down and printing the Pennsic book right now

We're gearing up ourselves.

I'll be there the entire two weeks.

If anyone wants to come by and say hi, we're on block N-17, the Oldcastle encampment. Look for the REALLY BIG round pavillion with painted blue trimwork.

Ask for Valentine.

Vicki,

I can throw a rock from my camp to yours. I will be in X-05, right next to the solar showers.

Everyone else,

I have a big blue and yellow tent that you can't miss. We have mead on tap the entire War. Please stop in, introduce yourself, and sit and chat and sip a mug or three with me. Ask for Pewter...

See you there!
Pewter

Pewter, when will you be getting there?

I'd love to come by and meet you, and I'm always looking for something to do near the end of land-grab.

A number of my friends here in Caid have already left for Pennsic. I am just a little jealous. ;)

I'm gearing up for Great Western War in October.

Trouble at Cooper's Lake?

I'm just posting here, since this was the first Pennsic thread I saw...

A local news station's web site has an article about a reported rape at Cooper's Lake campground this past Wednesday: http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/4842625/detail.html

I'm guessing that means Pennsic, but that's just conjecture.

If it is, (and even if it isn't, since no information about the alleged assailants has been made public), the media will likely have negative things to say about Pennsic.

Moreover, there's a Ren Fest going on in the greater Pittsburgh area over the next few weekends. in the general public, wonder whether perception of this (even if it's not at Pennsic) will bleed over into the Ren Fest?

Merry

The report of the rape was quietly circulated about inside of Pennsic and every camp made certain that it's female members did not walk around unescorted after dark. I must have logged 20 miles on foot walking single females home from the various parties I attended.

Theft and other crimes are unfortunately a reality everywhere in mundane life and have crept into the SCA as well. I would guarantee you that the rapists, had they been caught by SCA members, would likely have needed treatment in a hospital before being booked at the police station. 99 percent of SCA members would not tolerate that sort of sh**... but unfortunately it happens due to the 1 percent...

Peace,
Pewter

Treatment in a hospital, hell! We had it figured out. Our camp (Shadow Legion) was at N01, right on the highway. It seems in years past, when the Tuchux were in that area that one or more of their women would either bathe naked or show their 'assets' off to truckers going down the highway, and now the truckers *still* (after, I'm told, like 12 years) honk when they drive past.

So, we figured if we caught the rapists, we'd take 'em out with blunt trauma, one of us women would go up to the road and distract the trucker with our 'assets' while the men tossed the body under the truck's wheels......."Gee, officer, he was dead drunk, and just wandered into traffic...."

Killin' is too good for a rapist. Dismemberment is closer, but still too good.

Vicky - who both was escorted, and did some escorting (making up groups so we didn't travel alone), and whose feet feel like they fell off....

Yeh, the hospital might have had to reattach certain parts of their anatomies back onto their bodies...

Last year, the 'chux chased a thief from their camp back into the merchant area, where he was clotheslined by a knight. Rumor has it that he had more than a few unexplained bumps and bruises by the time the police arrived.

On a happier note... I got to meet Vicki! She really does exist.

She is a really nice, cute lady with an appreciation for fine meads. She liked my two batches, what more can I say? ::) ::) ::)

I'll be interested to hear what she has to say about the meads that she was able to taste during a couple of visits to my camp. I also look forward to her comments on the meads she tasted from Long Island Meadery.

Next War I hope that we can raise a few more together m'lady!

Oh yeah, Vickie really does exist. I had the pleasure of making her acquaintance at the last International Meadfest.

On the Pennsic situation, no, I don't think it'll reflect negatively on the SCA. If anything, it should help alert the public to the need for watchfulness at public gatherings like Pennsic and others.

BTW, Dan, you *will* be at the 2006 Fest, right? I'm planning on being there, and staying for 4-5 days after to tour the 4 meaderies that are in CO. I'm working on getting crash space now, so I can not have the hotel expenses to swallow....
