Julie Herz's article about starting a meadery suggests hiring a professional mead maker for starters. Is this really necessary? Is large scale mead production really that much different from, say, 5 or 15 gallon batches? ???
A few years ago, I worked in a microbrewery for just one day. The brewmaster said that he had also started out brewing beer as a hobby. Larger scale production in the microbrewery was basically the same hobby, but with bigger toys to play with.
