A friend of mine runs a University pagan society. I was pondering the possibility that someone might know someone who can do a talk on the history of mead and its associated legends??

It's just an idea at this stage.

You could check with meadery operators close to your area, or look up any local SCA groups. Homebrew clubs may have someone knowledgable about mead.
