Will a balloon work for 2-3 days on a 5Gal carboy till I can get to the homebrew shop for a new plug for my airlocks? Is poking a hole in the top of the balloon good or no? It's still fermenting, but slowly.

Made a wine we called Apple Jack when I was in the Navy, apple juice, sugar, raisin's and bread yeast. Used a Sparklets bottle & a non-lubricated condom with a pin hole in the end, never had an airlock. Taped the condom on the bottle, when it went flat we'd filter the wine through bread in a sieve. Never had a batch go bad, not that you'd know by the taste.

Lately I've been thinking about making a batch of that stuff with wine yeast, and let it clear before drinking it.

poped off twice...even w/ hole poked in the balloon.
Luckily I had time to hit up the store today, and have my good ole trusty airlock back on it.
