Hi guys,

The server that GM is on is currently undergoing a denial of service attack, and the site may be inaccessible at times while we wait for the host to stop the attack. Just wanted to let everyone know.

Shreesh. Why people who are smart enough and knowledgeable enough to do this sort of thing don't use their abilities for positive things is quite beyond me.

Its not the site being attacked, it's the entire server, us and however many other sites on this server. It effects us, but we aren't the target, so far as I'm aware.....

Is that just a script kiddie?

But yes, DDoS is basically compromised CPUs flooding the same site -- usually the CPUs have been taken over via a virus or Trojan Horse... usually without the owner's knowledge...

Yes they do, particularly because of the first 'D' in DDoS (distributed)

It's quite difficult to filter traffic when it is coming from all over the world (obviously via a C&C botnet) and is at first glance seemingly innocuous.
