Default Thank goodness I'd had my mead!

Okay, there's not really any place I can put this, so this is where I made my post...

This past week-end, hurricane Charlie passed right over my head in Central Florida. Thankfully I live closer to the east side of Florida as the hurricane fell to a catagory 1 just as it hit my area around 10pm on friday night. I'm a ham radio operator, so I was able to keep track of it via the ham nets with those that weren't affected transmitting signals into my area directly. This was a great help to me as I was able to update my neighbors after 9:30 when our power went out. Using FRS radios that have only a 2 mile transmit range was how my neighbors and I kept informed of each other's situation. Luckilly no major damage happened in my area or to my neighbors houses.

Without power for over 36 hours, I bottled my peach melomel and prepared to barter it for needed items like ice, until my wife and mother went 45 miles northward and inland to get ice for us and our neighbors. So, all in all, we had a wonderful after hurricane party with some peach melomel in a get-to-know-your-neighbor deal.

We now have power in our neighborhood, and all is well. Some 50 thousand plus people are still without power today, but considering that there were hundreds of thousands without power since Friday night, we've all fared well in the power companies trying their darndest to restore power.
To the electric line workers, I raise a glass of my peach melomel to you in gratitude!

Although we live in CA, my girlfriend was really worried about her mother who currently lives on the western coast of Florida. Her mother couldn't help but laugh at the name of the hurricane, which has the same name as her ex husband.

No, that's not me. I live in Deltona, a bit north-east of Orlando. Is there someone you would like me to get ahold of to see if they are okay? I'd be willing to do so and let you know... If so, feel free to contact me directly through PM or my email; nmccormick@earthlink.net.

By a small coincidence, this past weekend was the anniversary of last year's blackout.

Now that you mention it, you're right... I'd totally forgotten that.
