Re: priming with honey

GL just got my tun set up and want to do the honey wheat. My question is if I decide to prime my bottles with honey in sted of corn sugar how much honey per gallon would I need. Or is this a stupid Idea? By the way the wild honey ale is marvelous. thanks for the share RL

Hi Richard,

The Honey-Wheat Ale I made is a really good beer - it has a nice fruity ester aroma, a classic wheat beer 'cloudiness' to it, a very nice malted wheat flavor with associated 'graininess', and it is very, very smoooooooth! I made mine in time for my son's 30th surprise birtday party and it was a big hit with the 25-30 beer drinkers that attended. As a matter of fact, I just finished a 22 ounce pilsner glass full with my lunch today, and I'm glad I took the day off as the 5.7% ABV kinda' snuck up on me!

Regarding your question about priming with honey, I only tried honey once to prime my very first batch of mead in Grolsch bottles and I was not happy with the results. I've never tried it in beer, but the 5 or 6 batches that I've bottled with corn sugar have all come out great with regard to proper carbonation levels.
