Ok, I have just purchased a bottle of a Honey Liqueur by the name of "Barenjager" and I must say....this stuff is great! It says that is is produced in Germany and sits on 35% Alc. by volume. Just curious if anyone else here has tried this stuff? If not....you might want to!

I have had this numerous times! I agree that it's amazing. It's a bit pricey as a 500ml bottle is almost $27 here in NYC.

One of the preferred shots at my local bar is 50/50 Barenjaeger and Jaegermeister. It gives a cloudy foul tasting licorice flavored shot of doom. Great for college kids.

I should take photos of the bar's storage area.

I wonder about how it's made though. Is it really a distilled mead, or a liqueur? I've never been able to determine that

Wow, that is exspensive for only 500ml....I bought a 750ml bottle for about $27 and the strange thing is....it is shipped from N.Y.! :icon_scratch: Explain that one.....As for it being a distilled mead or a liqueur, well, it says that "the recipe is based on a traditional honey recipe enjoyed for centuries in Germany"....Could this be mead that they speak of? I do not know, but, either way....it was a great purchase and is a wonderfully dangerous drink to be careful of! I would recomend this to anyone who enjoys liqueur's once in a while...especially one that tastes like honey! CHEERS

I think it is time to revive this old thread!

Barenjager (barenfang) is one of my favorite drinks and favorite things to make! Has anyone else tried making it? I am interested in trying some new variations because I usually just make it the same way every time.

My recipe is as follows....

1500ml High proof grain alcohol (190 proof)
750ml Honey
375ml fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 cinnamon stick

Pour grain alcohol into 1 gallon jug and add cinnamon stick.
Let sit for a few days to a week to let alcohol extract the cinnamon flavor
Remove the cinnamon stick and add the honey and lemon juice
Shake like heck to get everything homogeneous
Add enough water to fill the jug to 1 gallon
Shake again
Shake everyday (or multiple times a day) until nothing falls out of solution anymore.

The final product is about 75 proof.

They say you are supposed to let it sit for a few weeks to let the flavors meld together... but I never do this. I usually just drink mine the day after i add the honey. ( or sooner depending on if its a Friday or Saturday night... haha!)

I actually had it for the first time this summer, it is pretty tasty stuff, I may have to try making it though. That sounds even better. I'm thinking our next Super Bowl party.

I actually had this before mead. I think I have a honey problem ;) a friend of mine and I got into a fight over whether it was mead or not. Don't worry, I know it is a liquor and eventually won the point. Yay reality.

I hadn't tried making it bough, and I think I will.
