Hydromel - Definition

As a Belgian, I have the privilege of speaking Dutch and French and getting to buy mead labelled in both Dutch and French and I can verify that in French, hydromel just means mead, as I have several bottles here, with 12%ABV, labeled "Mede" (mead in Dutch) and "Hydromel" (mead in French).

However, the fact that hydromel just means mead in French, does not mean it can't specifically refer to a low ABV mead in English. Languages, you have to love them!
 
I know that I am resurrecting a dead thread, but I have to correct things. Hydromel is not French, but Greek. The Latins took it from the ancient Greeks. Not that it is important, I just couldn't stand the murder of linguistics.

Really old threads are like meads - they keep getting better with age. :rolleyes:
Skropi, you sound like someone from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Next you'll be trying to tell us that Pandemic and Corona are Greek too. Lol. :laughing7:
If your mead gets stuck, just don't spray any Windex on it! :p
