Maybe it's just the first BEER, which is what I read. Other's could have done wine or other drinks. Beer may have been too 'low-brow' in historical times for THE PRESIDENT to brew IN The White House. (They very well could have brewed at home and afterwards, though. Nothing I read said anything against that.)
