My brewpal software claims a traditional BOMM is 313 calories per pint. That seems closer to the truth to me.

Better brewing through science!

Well it would make sense since the starting gravity is considerably lower than a mead. About half in some case depending on what your doing so if you cut the calories in two it would go around 150cal

I had to severely cut back after the first few months. Mead for sure can pack on the gut. More than beer for sure, but that just means more working out...totally worth it to guzzle the mead!

Ahh...welcome back mannye. You leave any Cajun food for the natives?

Oh man... I kept eating until I got on the plane! Even the airport food in NO is the best! Had a decent red beans and rice and a fantastic cup of gumbo in Concourse D. LOL Best weekend in a long time. Got on the ferry and crossed into Algiers "for one drink" and ended up cancelling dinner. The place is called the "Crown and Anchor" run by a British expat. One look at the door and you will know why I stayed:

Yay fcastle1! Nope, not gonna check your math, I like your answer better. That assumes no one comes up at 180

I secretly checked fcastle's logic and math.....both appear solid. 225 calories in 8.1 ounces of 14% ABV mead....but it also has some other nutrients, I suspect.

Yeah, I suspect the same, but as mannye stated, I also have been drinking too much mead and my logic is getting fuzzy ;D

Ahh, fuzzy logic. Now we know the rest of the story: I'm sure mead, or some other form of alcohol, was involved in the birth of that.

I wish I had a dollar for every time my brother-in-law argued with me that "pure alcohol" has no calories in it. Sadly, he had a degree in the medical field and organic- and bio-chemistry, but didn't know that. We had lots of arguments about that one. He also hit 50 lbs extra beer gut weight drinking Diet Pepsi and straight vodka. He still denies it. :)

that's just silly... booze is chock full of the worst calories there are...empty ones. Plus, it attracts cold pizza calories. He might have been citing some findings by Professor Charles S. Lieber of Harvard University who claimed alcohol had no effect on weight. Or the book " The Good News About Booze by Tony Edwards"
I don't know about all that big-city stuff. All I know is when I stop drinking, I drop pounds.
